About Janine Getler
Janine Getler is an Attorney located in Suffern, New York. Admitted to the bar in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 1991, she has primarily focused her attention on the development and construction of high rise projects in NYC. Her experience spans many industries, though, and she’s also dealt with bank closings, workouts and litigation and contract negotiation work.
Janine Getler began her career at Standard & Poor’s Corporation in New York City, where she served as a Researcher in the Municipal Bond Department. After spending two years cutting her teeth at S&P Global, she moved on into a position at Merrill Lynch, working as a Legal Assistant in Compliance. Here, she assisted securities lawyers and brokers, working in risk analysis for clients, retirement accounts and fiduciary relationships. Now, after three decades of proven success, Janine Getler started her own firm – Getler, Gomes & Sutton, PC – as Principal.
At Getler, Gomes & Sutton PC, she deals primarily in real estate, representing large corporate clients throughout New York and New Jersey as well as a variety of private clients such as construction firms, condominiums, individuals and small businesses. In addition to her career, Janine Getler has been highly involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors, including as a Board Member for Habitat for Humanity, President and Chair of the Family Support Committee, Vice President of the Pinwheel Project, to name a few. She is actively engaged in her community as a leader in community reform and charitable giving and has served as an annual presenter for the Council of Affordable Housing’s Affordable Housing Fair (1996-2004).
In addition to her work in real estate law with Getler, Gomes & Sutton PC, Janine Getler is also a dedicated philanthropist that has been involved with numerous charitable organizations throughout the years. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County, a role that she has remained in since joining in 2002, and has provided the organization with pro bono work as necessary since 1994. In 2017, Janine Getler joined the Board of Directors for the Rockland County Pride Center, and the advisory board for SB One Bank the same year, and remains in both positions currently.
Early Career
A graduate of Brooklyn Law School with her Juris Doctor, Janine Getler worked at her alma mater from 1989-1991 as a Research Assistant to Professor Norman Poser, where she spent time assisting in research and writing a book on broker/dealer liability issues. From 1991-1994, Janine worked as an Associate at Beattie Padovano, a large Bergen County firm dealing primarily in real estate and contract matters.
Janine Getler’s duties also included the research and writing of briefs in litigation cases, representation of large companies in litigation, land use, residential real estate transactions and other matters. Working tirelessly to grow in her career as a respected professional in law, Janine Getler continued her career journey at Price, Meese Shulman & D’Arminio as a Senior Associate specializing in zoning and planning work.
Janine Getler also worked at Zucker, Goldberg & Ackerman as a Manager of the Litigation and Real Estate Departments specializing in foreclosure and bankruptcy and at HRH Construction LLC as General Counsel for a high rise construction management firm. Here, she reported to the President and Chairman of the company, handling all administrative departments and their functions.
